Description

The stunning design of the Museu do Oriente emphasizes Portugal's connection to Asia, from its first steps into colonialism in Macau all the way to ancestor worship. This immense museum was once a 1940s bacalhau (dried salt-cod) warehouse that underwent a €30-million makeover. The permanent collection, artfully arranged in dimly lit rooms, celebrates the Portuguese influence in Asia and its many gods.
