Unique underground museum houses large collection of European instruments

Museu da Música (Museum of Music) has a unique location. It is housed underground in the railway station of Alto dos Moinhos. It features a large collection of European instruments as well as some related documents and a sound archive. After years of planning, the museum first opened in 1946.

Museu da Música (Museum of Music) was moved to its present location in 1994. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. In addition to the main exhibits there is a museum shop. Guided tours may be arranged in advance.
