Description

Lisbon football stadium known by fans as "the cathedral"

Estádio da Luz is a well-loved football stadium that is the home of the Sport Lisboa e Benfica. It replaces an older stadium of the same name. This stadium, designed by architect Damon Lavelle, is constructed in such a way as to make full use of natural lighting whenever possible.

Estádio da Luz (officially named Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and commonly translated as Stadium of Light) is also one of the largest stadiums in the world with the official capacity to seat over 60,000 people. The new stadium was constructed in 2003. Already it has hosted several UEFA Euro 2004 matches.
